Frequently asked Questions

This information is taken from frequently asked questions relating to Micro Focus’ Application Portfolio Management solution.

Micro Focus customers

Q. I am a Revolve customer. What does APM and Micro Focus move into this market mean to me?

A. We are committed to supporting our Revolve customer base for the foreseeable future. We released a new version of Revolve Enterprise Edition, version 7.0, in October 2006, and since then have provided several updates for the product. The introduction of APM capabilities is not a replacement for the types of analyses undertaken in Revolve, but rather can be viewed as a supplement to these capabilities, providing greater business-level intelligence for more strategic decision support.

Q. Does this mean that Micro Focus is moving away from its traditional customer base?

A. Not at all. The introduction of the APM solution in simple terms represents added value that we can bring to our existing customers as well as attracting new customers.

Q. I am interested in APM – How can I find out more?

A. For more information, please contact your Micro Focus account representative.

HAL Knowledge Systems customers

Q. I am a HAL customer. What can I expect of the future?

A. Micro Focus is committed to supporting the HAL customer base, and to improving the capabilities of our APM products. Micro Focus brings a stable, 30 year old company with the best support in the industry and a breadth of product and experience that are very complimentary to APM technology. In May 2007, Micro Focus released new version of the technology previously known as HAL kb-AIM Code, including major new features. In 2008, we continue to enhance the Micro Focus APM solution and recommend all clients upgrade to the latest release.

Q. Who do I turn to for support on my HAL products?

A. As a maintenance-paying customer, you should already have received notification of a new support login and website from Micro Focus.

Industry Analysts and Commentators

Q. What is the motivation for Micro Focus to move into APM?

A. Application Portfolio Management is seen as an evolutionary step for Micro Focus as it is an adjacent market and indeed is the topic and focus of several Micro Focus clients. Many of them are major Global 2000 organizations with a vast IT infrastructure, which simply must be managed better. Micro Focus understands the needs of its clients very well, and is well positioned to provide technology and services to help them achieve their business goals.

Q. Does this mean that Micro Focus is moving away from its traditional customer base?

A. Not at all. The introduction of the APM solution in simple terms represents added value that we can bring to our existing customers as well as attracting new customers.

Q. Does this signal a change in emphasis for Micro Focus?

A. Micro Focus’ longevity in the market, 30 years and counting, is due largely to its unparalleled commitment to its loyal customer base: centred on the COBOL language but otherwise unrestricted in terms of vertical, geographical or operational characteristic. COBOL continues to play an important part in the world economy, but with each passing year so too do other aspects of the IT portfolio, which bring value to the business but which themselves need to be nurtured, managed and controlled. Important business decisions hinge on the provision of accurate information regarding IT. Micro Focus sees it as a natural evolutionary step to want to help customers take care of their wider IT portfolio decisions.
